I teach middle and high school STE[A]M and Project Based Experiential Learning at Renton Prep. My PhD in Learning Sciences and Human Development from University of Washington has helped me answer questions about learning design and practice, and conduct classroom research since 2008. Being able to include students in Participatory Action Research is rewarding to see transformation in students. I'm also currently Adjunct at Concordia University and on the Professional Education Advisory Board for University of Washington, College of Education. I received the NCCE 2016 Outstanding Technology Educator of the Year, Ahead of the Class - Excellence in Education Award, Lead PBS LearningMedia Digital Innovator for the state of Washington, and for Renton Prep in the 2015-2016 school year: Lester R. Bayer Award for Excellence in Urban Education, FETC STEM Excellence Award Finalist, Etale’s 2015 Inspiration in Educational Innovation Award, and Award of Excellence - Digital Curriculum and Content Strategy from the Learning Counsel. As a Microsoft Showcase School, I've had the opportunity to collaborate closely with Microsoft teams to as they are developing tools to support strong pedagogical design. Teams from China, Serbia, Brazil, Pakistan, France, Germany, Japan, Taiwan, South Africa, New Zealand, Wales, Australia, Netherlands, Scotland, Croatia, and Czech Republic have visited the school, giving the students a chance to tell their story to an international audience.
