Randy Brown
Monroe School District Teacher
Washington State
Randy just completed his 31st year of teaching and has modified his 3rd grade classroom with the “flipped classroom” teaching method, which helps his students become independent learners. He have created over 500 instructional videos – covering reading, writing, spelling, grammar, and math – that are viewable in and out of the classroom. He coaches and tutors students one-on-one, while learning groups watch those videos. Randy says that this has been the most powerful, overnight transformation in education he has ever seen. He is passionate about helping others learn how to leverage technology to personalize education. His techniques have caught the attention of local school districts, news stations, newspapers and magazines, and CBS Radio national news. Randy won the 2013 Stanley O. McNaughton Golden Apple Award for Washington State. He was named one of the National School Boards Association’s (NSBA) Technology Leadership Network (TLN) “20 to Watch” honorees for 2014-15 and is featured in the new book entitled, Flipped Learning for Elementary Instruction.
